Does my landlord have the right to sue me?

GalantDriver asked:

Let me explain, I moved into an apartment and that first month was OK, but soon after things stopped working, the dishwasher, the a/c unit (WE LIVE IN THE TEXAS HEAT) the dryer vent is open to the outside yard where children frequently play, so after five months of complaining and no help to fix these problems i left. But my friend opted to stay i told her stay at your own risk and she did but she was not on the lease. I got a call from the owner who lives in Las Vegas and shes threatening to sue me because she found out she is living there. NOW SOME MORE BAD STUFF: the pipes in the walls busted and now the bedroom carpet is moldy and soggy and the wall has a great big patch of mold growing on it, in addition the owner failed to pay the water bill so all tennents were left without water for days, and the plumbing fixtures in the apartment don’t shut off they run regardless if they are on or off, also there is this black stuff coming in from the roof and vents that has coated the ceiling fans wall and vents, also one of the ceiling fans has hot open wires hanging from it. THE owner claims she can charge me 150.00 per day for every day my friend stayed in the apartment i did violate the lease terms however, she failed to provide a safe and healthy living environment with no attempt to repair any of the units all with problems like mine What should i do??

My oil boiler has decided not to work in the middle of this cold weather. It was last serviced about 3 months ago.
The pump and everything runs as normal, just it pumps around cold water. The boiler doesn’t even make an attempt to work and just seems as if it’s turned off when starting from cold. It’s getting power, unless it has it’s own internal fuse, because the pump and hot water/heating water switch is working correctly.

Does anybody, preferably a plumber/heating engineer have any ways I could try and fis it myself before having to call someone in? I’m freezing here.

Thanks
Jack
Yes I am in the UK. And I have half a tank of kerosene, oil fuel.
There is a cut-off switch inside the house (its an outside boiler) that lights up when hot water is needed, that lights up indicating it’s getting power.

Brian D:
Fuel, yes
what lock out?
pump works fine, it pumps around cold water
It’s an auto-lighting boiler, it’s not a gas boiler
water pressure = unknown but would that stop it from lighing?
how would bleeding the radiators help?

The whole system was only put in about 10-12 months ago. I’ll try the reset button, I have seen it but it sais ‘Reset twice only’. What does that mean?

Why are people making fun of poor Joe the Plumber?

The Reverend Nathaniel MacDonald asked:

There is a plumber that lives in his truck in front of my house, and his name is also Joseph.
He also smells like shite, short tempered, and rowdy. And keep in mind, he lives right in front of me.

Pressure regulator cost?

Ginger asked:

I just paid a plumber $200 because the landlord is absentee and doesn’t want to be bothered with minor repairs. All four faucets leaked which cost me $40 per month in wasted water charges.

The plumber, recommended by Service Master, suggested that I replace all the washers, which he did and then tested the water pressure to determine why they were so worn (little balls instead of flat washers). He said the PSI was supposed to be no more than 80 and his tester read 125. The city installed new water lines a few months ago before I moved to CA.

Is a charge of $950 reasonable? I am not paying for this repair but will contact the landlord. I can’t believe CA prices!

The fan turns ok when i move it manually.
What makes me think twice is that when i rang up and said it was too pricey he said he might be able to get his hands on some ’special spray’ that might do the trick. He said British Gas use it.
Sounds like a con?
