My bathroom faucet is leaking – plumber says I need to replace the entire faucet?
The bathroom faucet is leaking (badly now), and he took a look at it and says I will need to replace the entire faucet. to the point where the pipes reach the shut off switches (at the bottom of the sink).
I have called the faucet manufacturer for the warranty and they are sending me new parts saying that I do not need to replace the entire faucet.
Anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

either or is ok….plumber like to replace the whole faucet because they make more money ( labor and parts )….sometimes they do not carry parts to repair it because there are so many different kinds of faucets, but he may carry a new faucet with him….u can buy a new faucet for 15 or 20 dollars….the plumbers faucet is going to cost a lot more…..but if they are sending parts then the faucet will work as good as new, try and do the work yourself

The plumber is right…he’ll tell u to replace it because he didn’t have the part. The Manufacturer have the part and u will need the plumber to put it in. See how that works. lol U should of get the manufacturer first because it’s still under WARRANTY. Than the plumber…..it’s cheaper that way.

ok
in the states you call it a faucet….
in the UK it`s a tap
there all standard sizes all over the world
i.e 1/2 inch 3/4 etc
europe
15ml…. 20ml
if it`s leaking the most probable cause is the tap (faucet) washer,
cost in UK 20p states 50 cents
if your plumber ain`t carrying faucett washer`s, get a new plumber
he`s trying to rip you off
you can buy them in any local handyman store

The faucet is either a ceramic disc or an older rubber valve type. Ceramic disc faucets rarely leak but when they do they take a bit of work to fix. The older types are pretty simple, unscrew and remove the faucet handles, replace the black rubber (neoprene) rings, ***** back in, tighten everything.

Senokos, people like you make me crazy. The plumber, after finishing almost 10,000 hrs of his/her apprenticeship, can start a company, buy a truck, pay for vehicle insurance, advertising, liability insurance, phone, fax, stationary, etc., etc., – Just to have the pleasure of putting in a 50 cent washer and have you call him back two days later when it’s leaking again and you want warranty. “Yes Mr. Plumber, it’s me, Senokos, – remember, I gave you a shiny new nickel last time you were here – now it’s leaking again and I want a new floor because of the water damage. SHEEESH!!!

If I knew how old your plumbing is I could make an educated guess.
Model and mfgr of faucet would be helpful.
If the faucet is over 10 years old your plumber was probably correct.
If your plumbing is over 18 years old the plumber should inspect all the plumbing as I’d bet there are more problems waiting to appear.
How do you know what is bad on the faucet and needs replaced?
While parts may be available, getting the old ones out and the new ones in may be difficult with no guarantee of sucess. Most plumbers have been through this enough times to know it is usually more cost effective to just replace the entire faucet.
Did the plumber charge you for this call or was it free advice?
