I have a short glass cup stuck in the opening of the kitchen sink disposal. What should I do?

The cup is small and fits perfectly in the sink disposal hole. There is no way to grab an edge with tongs or pliers.

Depending on the situation…….and if all else fail………….break the glass. Try to break it in as few pieces as possible. Remove as much glass as you can, cover the hole and turn it on. Problem solved.

I agree with the shop vac idea. I’ve gotten things out of places with a shop vac before that I couldn’t even get a thin knife to go beside. If all else fails, you may need to take the disposal apart. I wouldn’t break the glass though.

Get yourself some duct tape, my friend! Seriously, the typical disposal is not too deep so you should be able to wrap a piece of duct tape, sticky side out, around the end of a spoon that is narrow enough to fit inside the glass. Reach down with a paper towel first to dry out the glass so that the tape has the best chance of sticking. Once you have your tape (duct tape is best) stuck to the inside of the glass, gently and slowly ease it up out of the disposal. Good luck!

Take it out! You can always unplug the disposal and remove it from the bottom, gaining you access to the stuck cup from below.

Pour dish detergent around the outside rim of the glass and let it run down. Put a couple of spoons in the glass and cover them with about an inch of rubber cement. You can get this at any hardware store or Wal-mart. Let dry. Pull the spoons and hopefully the glass will also come up. The rubber cement will come off the glass and spoons. Worth a try.

Suck it out with the vacuum cleaner.
Clean and dry the part you can reach, glue a handle to it, let it dry and take it out. Use some sort of rubber cement, not something that hardens out completely.
