If you have a GED you are no longer a high school dropout . Go to college , go to trade school , just look for a job … It’s up yo you .
In those fields, your talent and professionalism will carry you farther than education, per se. Go to trade school, gain entry-level employment at a local business, learn a speciality, get any certifications you need, get in a union if necessary. Also, learn how to perfect your resume. Pay attention to cleanliness and politeness, because even the hardest blue collar workers need a little professionalism to get as far as they can.
I think that construction would be your best bet, with no further schooling or training. As long as you are hard-working and reliable, you should have no problem getting a job, or finding an experienced individual to take you on as an apprectice of sorts.
My boyfriend started out at $10/hr (at 18) as a carpenter’s assistant. Now he is a sub-contractor, has his own clientele, and can charge whatever he likes. He’s 20 now.
There are numerous jobs for people who don’t have a college degree. Here are just a few:
Air Traffic Controller – $112,900/yr.
Elevator Installers & Repairers – $68,000/yr.
Web Surfer – $70,604/yr.
Real Estate Broker – $71,994/yr.
Funeral Director – $79,517/yr.
The salaries vary based on region, experience and training.
Most of these jobs require managing/supervisor others. You generally need some prior work experience. However, many jobs do provide on-the-job training.
